The tragic roles of women in opera

The tragic roles of women in opera

The idea behind these opera posters was to create an iconic portrait of a woman singing — or screaming — as the central figure of each opera, symbolising uncontrolled passion. The series reflects the tragic, dependent roles women often play in classic librettos such as Madame Butterfly, Tosca, and Norma. Each poster captures the final scene — the culminating moment where the story reaches its emotional peak. Visually, the work draws inspiration from Kazimir Malevich’s Suprematist poster language and Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.
